FOR PARENTS AND CHILDREN

Being diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is challenging for anyone – but having a child diagnosed with IBD can have a significant impact, not only on the child, but also on the wider family.

Children with IBD face the challenge of an unpredictable and potentially embarrassing disease.  They may feel embarrassed about their symptoms or frequent visits to the bathroom.  These distressing illnesses can be frightening and can lead to children feeling isolated.

It is important to know that you and your family are not alone!

As a parent it can be difficult knowing how you can help your child cope.  It’s important to talk about your feelings with a parent or doctor.  Meeting others who are going through similar challenges can make a big difference.
