Mrs Viv Gurrey

Viv brings a unique set of skills to CCNZ, most recently as Chief Executive of the largest parenting membership and volunteer organisation in New Zealand and previously in Chief Executive and senior leadership roles in the business, government and technology sector. Viv also sits as a Ministerial appointed member of the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand and represents on a number of associated health, technology and social sector organisations.

Viv says “IBD in New Zealand has a limited voice. The emotional, physiological and psychological impact on those who have this disease is immense and completely unimaginable to the wider population, most of whom have never heard of, or experienced life with the consequences of this disease. My appointment is the first step in raising a very necessary awareness of the burden of the disease, not only to the individuals and their families who are directly affected, but also to our society as a whole. Our objective is to build a robust, insightful and deeply caring support mechanism for those with the disease, one in five of whom are children. I want to lead an organisation that shapes a health system and society that enables those with this diagnosis to lead productive, happy and contributing lives”

The Board of Crohn’s and Colitis New Zealand see the appointment of Viv as Chief Executive being a milestone for the organisation. Viv’s experience and expertise will significantly augment the capability to achieve the many long term goals to improve the lives of people with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
