South Canterbury Support Group
About our Support Group
Crohn’s & Colitis South Canterbury sends newsletters and holds IBD information public meetings four times a year to provide much needed specialized advice to people diagnosed with Crohn’s or colitis, their families, friends and carers. The newsletter gives lots of interesting information and the meetings offer participants education and support, and strategies for those newly diagnosed to identify and establish links with the existing local community support structures.
Also regular items of interest are posted to our facebook page. Like us at: Crohn's and Colitis Support Group - South Canterbury
CCSC support group meetings provide a safe and supportive environment where individuals impacted by IBD can express themselves openly and receive support and understanding from others with similar experiences. All members, including the facilitator are impacted by Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis (IBD) in some way.
Studies have found significant benefits to participants in patient support groups compared to non-participants including: a more positive outlook on life; greater satisfaction with their medical care; increased self-esteem and reduced feelings of shame and isolation.
